What should Killearn Lakes homeowners know about Christmas light installation?

The north end of Leon County has the largest custom homes in the market and the most demanding installations. Steep pitches, tall two-story elevations, wooded sloping lots, and the coldest nights in the region all show up in the same neighborhood. Height and access drive both the design and the price here.

Height and pitch decide the install. Two-story elevations with steep, stacked gables are the norm through Golden Eagle and the newer sections of Killearn Lakes. That is a real access question, not a cosmetic one — it changes equipment, time on site, and what a safe installation actually requires. It is also why height is one of the four things that moves your number.

Wooded lots mean the display is the only light. Streets up here are heavily treed and largely unlit. A display reads dramatically at night because there is nothing competing with it, and that also means the driveway and entry deserve attention — they are what guests find the house by.

Golf-course and lake lots are seen from two sides. Homes on the Golden Eagle course or backing onto the Killearn Lakes water are viewed from behind as well as from the street. Where that applies the rear elevation gets designed too, so the back of the house is not dark while the front is lit.

This is the coldest part of the market. The north county runs several degrees colder than downtown and sees more nights below freezing in December and January. Retail strands go brittle and fail in that; commercial-grade LEDs and clips rated for outdoor winter use do not. If a section does fail, maintenance is included and it gets fixed.

Killearn Lakes questions

Asked by Killearn Lakes homeowners

The house is two stories with a steep pitch. Is that a problem?

No, it is normal for this area. It does affect the installation — equipment, access, and time on site all change with height — which is why home height is one of the four factors that decides where your seasonal price lands.

We back onto the golf course. Can it be lit from that side too?

Yes. Course-facing and lakefront homes are designed for both approaches so the rear elevation is not dark when the front is lit. Mention it at the consultation and the design covers both.

Does the cold up here damage the lights?

Not the ones used here. Commercial-grade C9 and mini LEDs are rated for outdoor winter conditions, unlike retail strands that go brittle in a hard freeze. And if anything does fail mid-season, maintenance is included at no extra charge.
